賈桂林‧杜普蕾出生在一個音樂家庭中，她的母親是一位鋼琴家。杜普蕾五歲時從收音機裡聽到大提琴的音樂，而確定了她一生的志業─偉大的大提琴家。
Jacqueline du Pré was born into a musical family.  Her mother was a pianist.  When du Pré was five, she overheard on the radio the sound of a cello and the course of her life as a great cellist was set.

杜普蕾自小在大提琴上就展現極為罕見的天賦，但是由於母親極力想栽培出一位偉大的大提琴家，杜普蕾選擇放棄與音樂無關的學科。因此沒有了大提琴，小杜普蕾幾乎無法與陌生人溝通。

Du Pré has shown great talent to ever play the cello since she was a kid. Due to her mother’s dedication to make her a great cellist, du Pré gave up every course unrelated to music.  This led to her inability to communicate to strangers without the aid of a cello.

杜普蕾的琴聲中散發出豐富的熱情與感染力，而她最有名的代表就是─艾爾加的大提琴協奏曲(Elgar Cello Concerto)

Her tones from the instrument emanate abundant affection and inspiration, with Elgar Cello Concerto, her famous recording as her representation.

1966年她與知名的鋼琴家兼指揮家巴倫波因(Barenboim)結婚。然而1971年正當她在開始發展另一段顛峰時，杜普蕾嚴重受到"多發性硬化症"的侵襲，而中斷了演奏身涯。1987年10月19日逝世於英國倫敦，享年42歲。
In 1966, she married famous pianist and conductor Barenboim. However in 1971, while she was at another peak of her life, du Pré had an acute attack of multiple sclerosis and her performing arts career was aborted. On October 19, 1987, she died in London, England, at the age of forty-two.
