Memories live on

A poem dedicated to my father-in-law and to those who lost their love ones

Written by Elisa English

On 7/2/10 in Minneapolis

You look so serene

As if asleep

Surrounding you are all your children

For which you have nothing to weep

Death is just a part of life

Yet, memories a part of living

There is so much to thank for

For a life allowing us to explore

For the time given to all of us

For the precious memories we possess

Life goes on

Memories live on

And legacy passed on

  • Nice. That really struck a cord with me. You're right about cherishing their lives. I was thinking about my father.

It's funny that I've just noticed the father's day card from my daughter left on the computer desk. That pulled me back from the solemn thoughts...

    On the card she wrote:

    My Daddy

My daddy is silly because sometimes he puts a cardboard box on his head for a hat.

My daddy is funny because he tricks me. Sometimes he tells me there is a watermelon in the bathtub.

My daddy is loved because he likes me no matter what happens.

    ---

Seriously, I can't really remember when I told her I placed a watermelon in the tub. LOL
  • Wow! That is so nice. Those words sure warm your heart. Kids have good memories. Be careful of what you say. :)

My daughter is too young to write and my son is not that expressive.

    How's your second one?

By the way, it was almost 4 1/2 years since my father-in-law passed away. Someone I acquainted just lost his mom which triggered me to write this poem.

  • I'm certain that her teacher helped her with the sentences. Nevertheless, it's fun to read it :) Our work voicemail has the email feature. I've archived all voicemails she's left on my work number. It's fun to listen to it from time to time.

We are doing OK, except the baby keeps waking up every 3 hours or so. She's just learned to roll over on her own. And she's beginning to explore her voice. Actually, she found her voice when she was 3 weeks old. Maybe she will say Ba Ba pretty soon. Our older one said her first "Ba Ba" when she was 7 month old. So perhaps it will be even quicker for the younger one. It's fun, and stressful. I'm sure you understand :)
  • Time flies. Babies are so cute. My daughter still pretends to be a baby. I like to hug her and kiss her. I still think that she is my little baby.
