Present Continuous / Present Progressive ( 現在進行式)

1.  Temporary actions happening right now and have not ended at the time of speaking, at this very moment, as we speak.  – Whilst, simple present is used to describe a permanent situation.

2.  Imminent actions going or not going to happen in the near future. Actions planned in the future and modified by adverbs of time such as tomorrow, next week, and etc.

3.  Actions in progress, ongoing, developing, occurring over a period of time, including the present.

4.  To show irritation over something or somebody in the present.

For example:

1.  I am blogging as we speak.

1.  I am writing my homework at this very instant.

1.  I am still hearing people talking about the aftermaths of Hurricane Katrina.

2.  I am having a flu shot tomorrow.   

2.    We are leaving for Paris next week.

3.  I am practicing law.

3.  Mary is turning into a fine young lady.

3.  The sea level of the Antarctic is rising from global warming.

4.  My daughter is constantly talking, disrupting her brother’s study.

4.  John is always forgetting to take off his shoes when he enters the house.

4.  Peter is forever complaining about his boss.
