This is my attempt to translate another poem from 李煜. To read more of my poems and translations, please go to http://elisaenglish.pixnet.net/blog/post/4653506. Aided by the reference below, I tried to portray the essence of the poem based on their interpretation. This is not a word-for-word translation, but rather an attempt to capture the essence of the original verse as much as I can. My translation of this verse is based on my limited understanding of the Chinese language and my limited ability to write poems in English.

李煜《浪淘沙》
Langtaosha
簾外雨潺潺,春意闌珊。
羅衾不耐五更寒。
夢裡不知身是客,一晌貪歡。
Outside the curtains, the rain splatters
Spring is coming to an end
Inside my blanket, with the cold I batter
wandering in my dreamland
Where am I?
Lusting after a moment of glee
I could not deny
After all, it’s but a dream to me.
獨自莫憑欄,無限江山,
別時容易見時難。
流水落花春去也,天上人間
Don’t lean against the railings alone
Oh! The immense empire I moan
The empire that I departed so hastily
How can I return? I have tried so almightily.
As rivers flow and flowers wilt away
Quietly, spring is also slipping away
From here, where has spring gone forth?
Is it in heaven or on earth?
