Unemployed not Allowed

It is the cynical me talking again.  I was shocked to read a news article from Yahoo Finance regarding job screening.  This is the link to that article: Out-of-work job applicants told unemployed need not apply.  http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Outofwork-job-applicants-told-cnnm-3498252371.html?x=0

At this time where the semblance of a silver lining in the economy is nowhere in sight and the likelihood of a double-dip recession is high, it is cruel to dampen people’s hope by screening out a candidate simply because he is currently unemployed and simply because the recruiters are incompetent in filtering through the overwhelming job applications.  Where is equal employment opportunity?  Wouldn’t this be considered as discrimination?  I was shocked to learn that there is no law prohibiting discrimination against the unemployed unless you are a minority.  By the way, I am not clear who would be considered as a minority under equal employment opportunity law.

Many of my colleagues were laid off as a result of reorganization to cut cost rather than from poor performance.  By disregarding the unemployed, are we indirectly worsen the unemployment crisis?  Are we missing out some of the best candidates?

I am glad that I still have a job but you will never know what would happen in the next minute in this unstable economy.  It could happen to those who screened out the unemployed.  Do your homework and look for better ways to screen candidates rather than this despicable short cut that is filled with flaws.
