Leave everything better than I found it.

=> It implies:  給他人(子孫)留下較好的未來, 較好的居住環境, 較好的事物, etc.

 

For example:


When I found the world, it might be filled with pollution.  Through recycling, I am leaving a better world to the others than the one that I used to live in .  So what I did was leaving this world better than I found it.


When I found the park, it might be filled with trash.  I took upon myself to clean up the park and leave behind a clean and beautiful park that others can enjoy.  So what I did was leaving things better than I found them.
