Someone has asked this question: “向下扎根” 的英文要怎麼說呢? 或是有類似的說法嗎?
My response was:
向下扎根: I would say:
establish your foundation.
There are people arguing that you should be able to use the phrase “plant the root” or "take root". However, these are all word for word translation from Chinese to English.
"Plant your root" is used when you move somewhere and really settle down or dwell and become solidified.
(idiom) take root means to become fixed or established: 生根, 根生蒂固.
The prejudices of parents usually take root in their children.
It looks like the only phrase that you can use is “build your base/foundation” or “establish your foundation”. No fancy words here.
