put on an act = to pretend, especially to deceive or to show off.
put on airs = to pretend to be superior
pretentious = to make an exaggerated outward show
For example:
Stop putting on act. You will never be a nobleman.
She always puts on airs pretending to be naïve and innocent.
It is a torture for me to see him in his pretentious self.
