2.  The First Conditional (Type 1) 現在或未來可能成為事實的條件句
The first conditional, often called “real conditional”, is a structure used when there is a possibility that the result will occur in the present or in the future if certain conditions are met.

1.  The Zero Conditional (Type 0)

The zero conditional is a structure used when situations are always true under certain conditions.  Since the result will always occur if the condition is met, the time is not important.  By the way, “if” can usually be replaced with “when”.  However, there is a difference.  ** The difference lies in that the condition where "when" is used suggests a higher frequency of occurrence than where "if" is used.

My Analysis of “On Her Loving Two Equally” by Aphra Behn:

This was a song written by Aphra Behn, illustrating the dilemma a woman faced when falling in love with two guys.  She was unable to decide which one to marry as loving one made loving another stronger.  Ironically, this was usually a view or an excuse from a man for loving two women at the same time or for not able to commit.

I came across this question at Yahoo Knowledge.

Question:  Printers such as Johann Gutenberg in Germany were utilizing movable type and hand press, until the 19th century, the problem of distance had only been "attacked" by the invention of faster and more effective means of transportation.

文法分析 (1) - 現在分詞 - 分詞構句

I recently came across this question about the grammar structure of the following sentence.  The asker is confused with the length of the sentence and cannot understand the grammar structure at all.

While the optimist in each of us wants these claims to be true, the findings from the task force, led by Tufts University biochemist Norman Krimsky, deliver a sobering dose of reality.

雖然我們樂觀地希望這些宣稱真的, 然而Tufts大學生化學家 Norman Krimsky 帶領的工作人員所研究的結果, (潑了把冷水) 讓我們回歸現實.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

When I read the first few lines, I was immediately drawn by the riveting story, captivated by the spellbound storytelling, and intrigued by the vivid characters.  This is a book full of suspense, a story within a story, unfolding themselves into other stories, filled with plots of twists, weaving between past and present, and intertwining stories between Vida Winter and Margaret Lea.  There are secrets, lies, ghosts, violence, betrayal and love.   So rich is the story, by which I was totally swept away.  Compelled, I spent 7 hours reading from 10pm to 5am the next morning.  I had no regrets showing up at work with dark circles under my eyes.  The sense of accomplishment made me feel complete.

I have not looked at the questions from Yahoo Knowledge for about a week.  I have been busy lately with my work.  I used to be able to steal some time from work answering questions from Yahoo Knowledge, but it has been hectic this year.  I am buried with four projects simultaneously; all need to be delivered between April and June, all concerning revenue generation and regulatory compliance.

In addition, the lack of response from Yahoo Management regarding my recommendation put a damper on my passion.  I am getting tired of answering Yahoo questions.  However, I find writing articles and blogs an interesting substitute.

Dangling Participles

A participle is a verb ending in –ing or -ed.  Dangling participles occur when the verb and the subject of the sentence do not agree, when it is unclear what the participial phrase is describing.  Dangling participles could appear as introductory participial phrases or at the end.

About my blog

I recently had a lunch with my colleague and mentioned to her my blog, the involvement I have at Yahoo Knowledge and the suggestion that my husband brought up.  My husband thought that even though I am providing free service, I could still take advantage of my blog earning some extra income.  The kind that some people do by allowing some companies to post their ads on their blogs.  I don’t know the mechanism of that.  I will look into it when I have time.  Anyway, when I mentioned this to my colleague, she asked for my blog address and volunteered to proof-read my articles if she happens to visit my site.  I am really glad to have another set of eyes to increase the accuracy of the information I provide.  My goal has always been trying to provide better and more accurate English usage through my blog and all my knowledge groups.
