1.  The Zero Conditional (Type 0)

The zero conditional is a structure used when situations are always true under certain conditions.  Since the result will always occur if the condition is met, the time is not important.  By the way, “if” can usually be replaced with “when”.  However, there is a difference.  ** The difference lies in that the condition where "when" is used suggests a higher frequency of occurrence than where "if" is used.

For example:

1.  If the school is off, I usually take my son to the museum.

=> When the school is off, I usually take my son to the museum.

2.  We go snowboarding if it snows.

=> We go snowboarding when it snows.

3.  If my daughter has a fever over 100 degrees, she stays at home.

=> When my daughter has a fever over 100 degrees, she stays at home.

4.  In the past, if the school was off, I usually took my son to the museums.

=>  In the past, when the school was off, I usually took my son to the museums.
