I came across this question at Yahoo Knowledge.  The asker is asking whether we should use “as” or “that” to fill in the blank of the sentence below.

It is such a golden opportunity __  you should not miss.

I thought that both “as” and “that” are right.  The reasons that I believe you can use either “as” or “that” are stated below.

as (pronoun, used relatively) = that; who; which (usually prec. by such or the same)
See
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/as

For example:

(1) I have such a nightmare that I cannot escape from.
= I have such a nightmare as I cannot escape from.

=> I cannot escape from such a nightmare.

** "that" and “as” are both pronouns indicating "nightmare".

(2) It is such a golden opportunity that you should not miss.

= It is such a golden opportunity as you should not miss.

=> You should not miss such a golden opportunity.

**"that" and “as” are both pronouns indicating "a golden opportunity".

 (3) It is such a poor performance that I cannot bear watching.

It is such a poor performance as I cannot bear watching.

=> I cannot bear watching such a poor performance

(4) I have the same trouble as you had.
=I have the same trouble that you had.

=> You had the same trouble.
