Meaning:
A small, unpleasant matter that spoils a situation that could have been pleasant
Examples:
1) We really enjoyed the wedding, but the fly in the ointment was the best man who kept singing out of tune.
2) The wedding would be perfect but the fly in the ointment was the absence of blessings from the groom’s family.
