This happened when we came back home from our trip to San Diego for our Christmas vacation.  I thought that my son didn't believe in Santa Claus, but apparently I was wrong.  I told him that we had Christmas in San Diego and the Lego toy was from Santa, but it didn't work.  Anyway, I did successfully wiggle myself out of this situation, but I think that we can longer push out our Christmas tree purchase.

I thought that the entire incident was kind of fun, so I decided to write a poem about it

A poem - No Way In

Your face lighted up with excitement

And your eyes shined with merriment

What drove the exuberance in you?

And what caused that incitement in you?

You got off the car in a flash

Running towards the living room in a dash

With that anxious look in you

Curious was I about what you were up to

Disappointed, you said

Why Santa hadn’t come

Bewildered, you asked

Where your present could have gone

Cornered, I tried to comfort you

That Santa couldn’t have climbed through

With the fireplace being blocked

By that big screen TV we brought  

You ran downstairs in a dash

Towards the entertaining room in a flash

With that frantic look in you

Searching for another chimney and any other clue

This chimney wasn’t blocked, you said

Santa should have no trouble getting in

Puzzled, you scratched your head

Wondering where your present could have been

Feeling sympathy for you, I said in blurt

That the chimney was covered with dirt

Santa had asthma like you

And he couldn’t breathe climbing through

Upstairs you went to another room

This time to the great family room

Looking hastily everywhere

For a present found nowhere

This chimney was clean and unblocked

But the present was still nowhere to be found

I told you that the fireplace door was locked

And there was no way Santa could have been around

We will need to do something this December

Something that we can no longer ignore

We will just have to remember

To unlock the fireplace door
