No Way In
This happened when we came back home from our trip to San Diego for our Christmas vacation. I thought that my son didn't believe in Santa Claus, but apparently I was wrong. I told him that we had Christmas in San Diego and the Lego toy was from Santa, but it didn't work. Anyway, I did successfully wiggle myself out of this situation, but I think that we can longer push out our Christmas tree purchase.
I thought that the entire incident was kind of fun, so I decided to write a poem about it

A poem for my daughter – As cunning as a fox
I have been wanting to write about my daughter, about her skillful manipulation. This is it. It is not perfect but I am brain dead at the moment.

A Phantom in the Past
I accidentally stumbled upon someone's site, which happens to be someone I encountered in the past. Bad memories rushed to my mind. Maybe I won't be bothered this time since I have stopped providing corrections to people's usage of English and suggestions on translation at Yahoo Knowledge.
However, I still feel the urge to write.

A short poem about love
Just for fun. A short poem about love.
Lonely as I stand in the dead of the night, I must tell you my love for you is so true.

A short poem for kids – Please stop peeping into my world
Woodpeckers like drumming on surfaces that would resonate loudly. Repetitive drumming or incessant rhythmic tapping is a way for them to proclaim breeding territory or social significance. Every morning around 6am, we will be awaked by woodpecker’s drumming on our siding. It is rather annoying especially on weekends when we finally have the luxury to sleep in. Since woodpeckers in Minnesota are protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act and can only be controlled with a Federal depredation permit, there is really not much we can do about it. These woodpeckers have been living with us since we moved in. I bet that they have built a huge nest inside the wall of our house.
Anyway, since there is nothing we can do about it and I have nothing to do at the moment, it wouldn’t hurt to write a poem for kids.

A short poem for my son – Life is full of joy
There seems to be a conspiracy going on in my household. My son told me the other day that he was going to die. The next morning his sister told me exactly the same thing. My daughter seemed to say it out of no reason, just to mimic her brother. As for my son, I was initially saddened by his words, wondering what could have happened and driven him to say such a thing. When I learned of the reason, I had to maintain my cool. It was hard to hold my laugh. I wanted to be a sensitive mom but sometimes it is hard to take them seriously. Yesterday, my son told me he had a bad day and cried when I picked him up from school. Maybe he is growing up and becomes more sentimental. I am such a lousy mom, clueless of what’s going on.

Another short poem for kids - Skeleton Crossing
This is another short poem I just thought of. I hope that you (and/or your kids) like it. This was something my son asked me a few days ago. I thought it was interesting.

A short poem for kids - Little Pussy Cat
I have not written anything for kids before. I thought that it would be fun to write a short poem for little kids. This is what I can squeeze out of my brain in five minutes before I head back home. It is not well written. Just for your amusement.

How can I Describe Mine Love to Thee?
I really don't have time to put too much thought into this, as I am leaving for my vacation tomorrow and there are tons of things to do before we leave. This will be the last article I write in 2009. I am not satified with this poem but I really don't have time to think. I will rewrite it when I am back from my vacation in 2010. Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

My sorrow for the Taiwanese people - Typhoon Morakot
A sonnet written by Elisa in the dead of night on 8/18/09.
My sympathy goes to everyone in Taiwan. I have said enough on my blog about my sadness and feeling surrounding the poor handling and the tardiness of the entire rescue process. I do hope that everyone can get through this disaster.

A marketing slogan
To expand your imagination and creativity, I thought that it would be fun to post some of the slogans I came up with while answering a Yahoo Knowledge question.
Sometimes, literal translation or word for word translation is not always the best. It depends on the purpose and where it will be used. In this case, the asker was creating a Father’s Day brochure for a client and needed to come up with a slogan. The client asked to use the phrase “上陣不離父子兵”. The asker wanted to know what the translation of that phrase is to be included in the brochure. In the brochure, there is also a picture of a father and a son walking together, both wearing jeans and with whips on their hands.
Since the purpose of the slogan is to be used in a Father’s Day brochure, I did not translate the phrase literally or word for word. This is all about marketing. To come up with better slogans, you need to know the product. Since the asker did not describe what the product is, this is the best I can come up with. It is fun to answer this type of question as it reminded me of the days I attended the Marketing classes (product pricing, branding, consumer behavior, etc).

英文對話關於墜機事件
Sadly I must admit that I may have become a partner in crime and answered about two or three questions related to homework, not knowing the intent of some that may have asked others to do their homework, when I first started answering questions in Yahoo Knowledge. Those questions have since been removed, but I still kept the answers.
This is what I wrote about 三分鐘6個人英文對話關於墜機事件. I decided to post it here as I see that there is still value in learning how to write something like this as long as you are learning, not copying.

A poem that starts with LOVE
Someone has asked me to write a poem that starts with the alphabet of LOVE on each line. I thought it is fun so I would like to share it with you.
Laurie, my love, how I yearn for your touch

Our Scandalous Love (1)
This was another poem which I wrote trying to follow the structure of a sonnet. I still like it and want to share with you even though it did not trully rhyme with every line.
For examples of my poems which follow the structure of Shakespeare's sonnet, please look at my article - Shakespeare Sonnet - 十四行詩說明和寫法
